Mars and its Canals - Percival Lowell, 1907, 1st Edition, Third Thousand. The pages in this copy are in very good condition. The spine had separted and the book was professionally restored. This copy was in the private collection of Strathmore RB Cooke, who was from Australia, educated in New Zealand, and was a professor at the University of Minnesota.
Percival Lowell served as a foreign secretary and counselor for a special Korean diplomatic mission to the United States. Lowell was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1892. He moved back to the United States in 1893 and became determined to study Mars and astronomy. Probably influenced by the current era of large-scale human endeavors, shch as the Panama Canal, he became particularly interested in the canals of mars proposed by Giovanni Schiaparelli who was director of the Milan Observatory.
The book covers all aspects of Lowell's Martian investigations. The natural features of Mars, the Polar Ice caps, and my personal favorite, the Vegetation of Mars.
I will cover PayPal fees and shipping.
