This is a book that I waited for the local library to get back in 1998. Of course the library ended up NOT getting this book in their collection, so I would visit it at Border's Books at the Tacoma Mall back when it existed.
And now that I've had my many, many years with it, I am ready to part.
It is the 1st edition printing.
This hardbound writing, which is just chock-full of beautiful photographs (some of them 3D!), discussions of planetary history and geographic features, not to mention the information on machines, devices, and the rockets, is a massive rejuvenation of the Mars craze that was long-in-wain after the Viking missions until the events of Pathfinder and Sojourner.
I'm not going to get too wordy in describing this book because all I'm going to say is it's an awesome trip that you can take in the comfort of your armchair. The few photos you got to experience in 3D with Sky And Telescope and numerous in this book and I was actually able to keep track of BOTH original red-and-blue 3D glasses, which come with it and are in a built-in pouch at the end of the book.
230+ pages of Mars excitement that, until after the next Mars mission Spirit and Opportunity, remains the foreword on that planet. And even amongst our current discoveries, I'd find authors hard-pressed to put together a finer, more fun-flowing hardbound than this one.
Conditions are excellent to mint on the inside pages. Some have very slight wrinkling on the bottom; most likely from me turning the pages, lol. The further towards the back you go, the purer the pages get. Hard cover body is in solid excellent condition and the cover sleeve in great+, not quite excellent, condition due to tiny rips forming on the top corners. Nothing to worry about. The spine is perfect.
One of the 3D glasses is used with a tear or two in it, but the plastic is not punctured or heavily scratched. The other 3D glasses piece is in very excellent condition.
This is a book you need to experience and something the internet just cannot show you justly.
All nations welcome to bid.
