This is a mint condition celestron 8" SCT. The model is a "celestar" and comes with several accessories. I'm selling for funds on another project, but I hate to see this one go. Optically, one of the finest scopes I've had. Period.

The primary mirror is excellent and the corrector plate and diagonal are both in mint condition, too. You can see the casini division in the rings of Saturn, no problem. Mars shows its polar ice cap and other surface details. Jupiter is fantastic with bright cloud bands, the Great Red Spot visible, and of course the four brightest moons. This is particularly fun for new astronomers, as you can see the moons' changing positions hour to hour and night by night as they orbit Jupiter. The great Orion Nebula is fantastic in this scope, with loops of gas and star dust and many "newborn"stars visible in this stellar nursery. Star clusters like Hercules are fantastic jewels, too. The moon, of course, is an endless object of visual study.

For those unfamiliar with with this model of telescope, company 7 has a great write-up about it.

The scope sits on a wedged tripod, and it has an electric RA motor that tracks the motion of the stars across the sky. This runs on a standard square 9v battery. Once you get the scope level and polar aligned (I can show you some simple tricks to do that), you can do some basic astrophotography. (See a couple photos I did through this telescope and a dslr camera for fun-- I'm just an amateur with photography, but have 20 years experience with telescopes. So, please feel free to ask any questions. I'm also happy to show you how to operate the scope.)

INCLUDED ACCESSORIES:
finder scope
a red dot sight
diagonal mirror
25mm eyepiece
new celestron dew shield

If interested, for an additional $50, I also have a celestron Advanced Astro Master computer. About the size of a thick calculator, this is a digital setting circle computer, which, when hooked up, will tell you where to find several thousand objects in the night sky. In order for this to be used, a small attachment needs to be installed on the telescope. That attachment will have to be bought separately.

pickup only, PayPal, or cash. $450 or best offer.

Price is negotiabe, but, again, this is an optical performer among many scopes I’ve had. I considered de-forking it and getting a cgem, but projects change, and I’ve gotten such great use out of it as-is. I figure someone else will really enjoy it, too.

Thanks for looking! Now make an offer. ;)
