This is a 1970 3.5" Standard Questar, serviced by Questar in 2006, in fine working condition. It comes with both standard eyepieces, Questar eyepiece adapter, new solar filter for primary filter and finder, original hard carrying case, screw-in tripod legs, power cord for tracking system and the original booklets. The serial number is #0-CV-4350-BB: the 'CV' indicates that it has a Cer-Vit mirror; the 'BB' indicates that the optical surfaces have a broad band optical coating to increase light transmission. I bought it from the Teton Science School just after its service. I think this scope is best used as a 'long-range microscope' rather than a planetary observer. I feel certain there are those who prefer the other way 'round.
About the price: the solar filter, the adapter, and the service by Questar together cost $1186. I have many pictures and the original receipt for the service by Questar. I have set the price so low because I am moving and have neither the time nor the energy to haggle. Yes, the scope is old; there are some spots on the front element, the plastic handle on the leather hard case broke. So rather than trying to get even marginally what the scope is worth, when the buyer opens the box and sees that it is old and has these imperfections, I want him to think of the price he paid--and not of calling me! Or I want him to think that he is buying the adapter, the solar filter, and the eyepieces and that he got the scope free! If I cannot get somewhere near the asking price by Monday, I'll toss it into a box and take it with me. But I have other scopes among all my 'stuff' and would prefer someone else to have this one . . . I cannot recall seeing a Questar priced this low, ever, but, even so, it is still better than my IRAs . . . I have many pictures and a scanned .jpg of the original receipt but cannot figure out the requirements to place images into this ad but give me a place to send them to and you will have them. Thanks for reading.
