I’m looking to sell or trade my 10” TPO Truss Ritchey-Chretien to replace it with something lighter.  It’s been a very reliable solid performer but the older I get the heavier it seems and I need to downsize.  This scope is in excellent condition.  I’ve never traveled with it, the mirrors are clean other than minor dust that doesn’t impact visual observing and calibrates out for imaging.

I’ve used this scope for both visual and imaging with excellent results.  Planetary views with an 8mm eyepiece are stunning.  For lunar and larger DSOs, I usually use a 14mm or larger eyepiece to expand the FOV, again with exceptional results.  With its large aperture, it is very bright and amplifies incredibly faint objects.  It is primarily designed as an imaging scope and of course excels there as well.  Sample images of the moon and veil nebula are attached.

It collimates well but it’s an RC so there is a technique and learning curve.  I use a Hotech laser collimator and a Howie Glatter and both are available.  With these, you can get it well collimated in 10-15 minutes and then fine tune on a star in 2-3 minutes.  The secondary mirror is upgraded with Bob’s Knobs to make the fine tuning easy.  When I leave the scope deployed on my observatory pier, it rarely needs collimation and, when it does, it’s just a matter of tweaking the secondary on a bright star.  When I move it in and out of the house a bunch of times, then I will do the laser collimation every so often.  Bottom line is if you’re willing to take a few minutes before imaging/observing, this scope will give you impressive views and images.

The scope is upgraded with a feathertouch focuser, which was just retuned and adjusted by Starlight Instruments so it’s in factory-new condition.  I’m willing to sell/trade it with or without the feathertouch and pictured Baader clicklock clamp and diagonal.  The feathertouch also includes (not pictured) a Precision Parts adapter that provides proper backspacing for a QHY268 with QHY’s medium OAG and thin filter wheel.  Other optics can easily be adapted to the M54 threaded end of the Precision Parts adapter.  The Astrozap dew heater pictured is included as well.

Also included is a TPO 0.75x Focal Reducer for RCs (part no. OS-FRRC-75).  It's new in the original box.  I've never used it.  I'll also include a shroud for the truss.

Also included is a rolling Husky hard-side case with Kaizen foam custom cut to fit the scope.  (Note: any gear shown in the pictures but not expressly included in the listing below is not included).

Asking prices are below but I’m also open to interesting trades for a good quality but lighter weight scope.  In light of the size and weight of this scope, local pickup or drop off somewhere in or near San Diego is strongly preferred.  Sale is as-is where-is but I’m willing to ship it at the buyer’s expense/risk.  I will add additional foam and packing to the husky case and will ship it in that case, which will provide better protection than a cardboard box.   I'll add Fragile stickers to the case.

With Feathertouch Focuser:  This includes the OTA, Bob’s Knobs, Astrozap dew heater, feathertouch focuser, Baader clicklock clamp, William Optics carbon fiber diagonal, TPO reducer, shroud and rolling case.

  • My asking price is $3,100
  • Retail pricing for these components was over $4,800

OTA and Original Focuser:  For just the OTA with the original TPO focuser, dew heater, reducer, shroud and rolling case: $2,000.

Other:

  • Hotech laser collimator: $120
  • Howie Glatter 2” (635NM) plus concentric circle: $340 (this price is non-negotiable and collimators are only offered with the OTA)

I’m open to interesting trades for a lighter, more portable high-quality reflector and willing to make up the difference if your trade is worth more than this scope.  Not interested in SCTs.
