Dealings with Tom Godsey - Beware

Do I have a beef with Tom Godsey, yes.  It's sad that he gave me a 1 star rating in respond to my 1 star of his behavior... as such I am posting email exchange so all can be the judge.  I always am respectful of others but when others treat you poorly one must take action.

Look the seller has every right to sell to whomever he/she wants but be respectful of others.  If Tom would have told me from the start that he has someone local competing... I would have just left it alone but Tom Strung me along and pop it last minute then tried to project his shortcomings onto me by saying "first come first serve?"  really?

Beware when dealing with Tom Godsey, he'll pull the rug from under you!   Email thread below 1/original email via Astromart is on the bottom.

I'm actually quite miffed about this, thinking I was working out a time to pick this up.  if you were wanting payment right away I could have sent it to you... not sure what was the deal here... you strung me along and then didn't even give me an opportunity to make it happen...

Thanks
Sunny

What's your address so I can plan accordingly.... any particular day that you'd prefer?  Mondays and Fridays are preferable for me but can make it mid week if need be but will have to plan to be away from my work so let me know your preference and timeframe and how long you have to make this deal.... meaning if there is a specific time that you need to get this done by or really no timeline so we can casually coordinate.

Thanks
Sunny

It has been a long standing policy here on AM that if you did not complete a transaction with someone then you should NOT issue a rating. Numerous folks have found their accounts removed as a result of violating that policy.

I would suggest you review the following: https://astromart.com/account/ratings/rate/about-rating-system

While I realize Tom Godsey initiated the issue by giving you a bad rating when there was no completed transaction in fact you are just as guilty as he for following up by posting a rating of him when there was no completed transaction.

In fact you can read a note from Herb below in his words on this issue.

1) you may NOT rate ANYONE that you did not complete a deal

2) if you do and you don’t remove that rating ASAP then I will delete the account which in turn will remove the rating for them

Thank you

Herb

Given the above I would suggest you find the option to remove your rating of Tom or failing that you contact Herb at support@astromart.com immediately. I am sending this to both you and Tom privately as well.

Greg Shaffer,

Appreciate the info and I have initiated the retraction with Herb.  That said, I also ask Herb concerning the astromart community, we report on scammers, bad behaviors so how does the community learn and share with others about users honorable intentions or rather in this case dishonorable intentions.  I know and understand that there are always two sides to a coin. It's just good to know and be aware of who you are dealing with before hand.  Of course policies are usually there to prevent the escalation of "virtual email wars".  Surely you'd want to know who you're dealing with.  I've had many many dealings and never had anyone did what Tom has...  Others would say that they prefer local deals and that was that...respectful and done, no harm no foul.

thanks for your opinion and advisement.

Reporting concerns here in the forum as you did are usually fine......I would assume the permanent record of ratings is meant for praise and or reporting a problem transaction where someone actually lost something that wasnt resolved to everyones satisfaction. While disappointing in your case no one lost anything therefor a negative permanent record is not warranted and in fact in a number of possible circumstances can be unfair.....He sold basically to the 1st person who put $$ in his hand which is not that unusual.....disappointing for you, I get that, in fact it has happened to me but that really doesnt justify either one of you ending up with a permanent negative on your record.

I see and absolutely understand your point.  I just never met anyone on astromart of any other astro site that did what he did.  I guess I've been lucky.  Until Tom, mine had been all positive experiences. Even when they decide to sell to someone else... It's not that I lost the deal because that has happened numerous times before but rather how he went about doing it... asking me if I can pick it up during the weekdays because he works weekends and my answer was "yes" just need to coordinate and next thing you know he tells me he sold it... again I understand that the seller has that right... just be fair and upfront about it....

I think we all deserve that!  fair and upfront.. I just felt that I went through all the trouble of getting things set up and ready to take off and boom... the rug pulled out from under me!

Thanks again for your unbias and fair assessment of my situation.
