Notified of a PM but Inbox is empty

I am a brand new member, so please let me know if I'm missing something.

I posted a couple of ads yesterday (428410, 428411).  Today, I received an e-mail message indication that I've received a PM regarding one of the ads (428410).  When I go to my AstroMart Inbox, I get the message that my Inbox is empty!

I would like to answer the member's question, but I cannot because the Inbox says that I don't have any messages.

Am I doing something wrong?  Please help me out with this.

Thanks,

smp

PM's on the site have nothing to do with ads whatsoever...... if someone responds to an ad you should receive an email to the email address you registered with. If you just joined you should be receiving email notices of new ads posted (assuming you have any categories chosen to receive them for on your settings page). There has been some intermittent issues with blank notices being sent out since the new site went online. Its been a while since I have received any but I have seen several folks mention they still get some blank notices though.

I am going to guess that's what you got instead of a blank response to your ad.....any notices of responses to your ad should come in as if it is from the person inquiring so that you can respond directly to them unrelated to the site.

OK!  Thanks very much for the explanation.  I get it now.

I am sorry I don't understand. There is a member's fee for this site to be used by us members but I can't get any messages at all in here! I assume members can feel safe to do transactions here. Whether is selling  or buying or just communicating to other members. Please forget me if I ask, what is the main reason why the fee is being implemented? Are transactions being monitored by experienced personal coordinators? What is the message box that is on the website for? The Main reason why I would like to start and finish a transaction here in Astromart is because it would be safer for both Buyer or Seller  is that right? Presumably our identity had been checked prior to join the site so it will be safe to do transactions here. Please let me know, I will appreciate it. Thank you Regards. Joel S.

1. What kind of messages are you talking about?  You have only placed a single wanted ad 2 days ago so odds are good no one has responded as yet. This is your 1st forum post as well.

2. There are no guarantees that you wont get ripped off, however the fact that real names are used along with registration and the associated fee insures you are likely dealing with someone who can be found in case of a problem thus removing the temptation fostered by anonymity found elsewhere.

3. The "message box" you refer to is I assume the private messages option where you can have conversations with out them being public same as every forum/trading site I have seen.

Thank you for your response. Not very reassuring response I would say. It really made me feel as if I was in my own here of whatever transaction I happen to do, whether is Buy and Sell or anything. When I saw the 3 categories you had mentioned. No disrespect but I was expecting different response and to be honest something else, maybe something more dependable or some assurance that it will make me feel more secure here on the site. The way you talk as if you defending every matter in stead of trying to help with the member's issues here. All I wanted to know is why is the reason that I can't get a back up "MESSAGES" by member's I am dealing with here on the main front page, and prof of everything both parties talk about so it can be more secure. I see that as a way of taking no responsibility nor trying to help. I was expecting for N#4). So I did not get an answer as to what is the main reason why, there is a member's fees here. What are we paying for here, is this some kind of donation when we paid for membership?  Would you please elaborate more of this matter? Thank you have a good day.   Joel

Sounds to me like you are assuming I am associated with AM.....I am not beyond being a satisfied member for many years with way over 100 transactions, mostly purchases.

There are no guarantees anytime you are making faceless transactions. Unlike most sites AM does force real names based on membership fees in as much as possible. Due diligence on your part is still expected. The transaction feedback system here is quite helpful as well in keeping you informed of whom you are dealing with.

Not sure what you are talking about regarding "back up messages" regarding transactions. Sequence of how it should go.

1. You find something you are interested in purchasing

2. You review the persons feedback and decide if you wish to go further. You own judgment comes into the play here.

3. You click on respond to the ad and enter your message

4. The seller is sent an email to the address they have on file with your questions, offer etc.

5. When they respond it is directly to the email you registered on your account. At this point all the communication is directly with each other via direct email. (does that answer your "back up messages" concerns?)

6. Depending on the situation I usually have a conversation on the phone with the seller to get a feel for things.

7. Assuming you reach a deal, once you have received it you then enter your feedback to his profile and he to yours.

You should not be trying to complete transactions via the online private message system here which is I assume what you are talking about as you wont physically have copies of those discussions though you can see them in your PM box.

As for why there are yearly fees, there are expenses incurred in operating the site......and there is no percentage charged on each transaction like ebay does. I paid $100 a year as a supporter for a number of years in addition to the $15 yearly membership fee and never regretted it one bit.....I don't buy or sell much at all anymore so I am content to pay the $15 a year to maintain access now.

Not quite sure what you mean about having and keeping more of records and that making it 100% secure.

Feedback is never removed unless the member was a problem and kicked off permanently. Unless sellers delete their ads (which is as of now no longer allowed but was for years) all the ads going back 18 years or so are still here.
