Can this be done? Has anyone tried?

I have a Chromacor N type 1. I use it with my 215mm F12.5 and Baader Mark 4 w/glasspath compensators, 1.25x,1.7x & 2.6x. Without the compensators you must account for the optical length of the binoviewer in order keep that critical distance between eyepiece & Chromacor. I use a 120mm extension tube with the compensators and remove it with B.V. only. With my setup all the combinations work great. Longer focal lengths like my refractor also have a greater distance between the Chromacor and the E.P. than the 150mm F8 that the Chromacor was designed for. I have a Nikon 26mm B.V. with an old 2" U.O. 2x barlow. With the barlow lens mounted in the 2" nose piece I get exactly 2x. The Nikon gives very good performance with or without the barlow, but not quite as good as the Mark 4. Hope this helps....
