Concrete Calculations--How Much

I have a pier base dug 36 inches down, and 18 inches around.

(I figure this will be sufficient in this ground--I actually had to use a power jack to get through the hard ground. I plan to use under a Losmandy G-11 with a C 9.25. And in fact, the hole is a bit larger than 18 inches around.)

How many 60 pound bags of concrete do I have to dump into this hole to fill it appropriately?

I have an estimate of my own, but want it confirmed by others with experience.

I cannot see anywhere how to convert a bag of concrete into a volume measurement. (I tried Google, and found out that it was more important for us all to know what Scott Peterson did with a 90 pound bag of concrete.)

Thanks for any advice.

Alex,

You need 12 bags at 50 lbs per bag. A 50# bag yields .5 cu.ft. The 18"dia X 36" tall pier requires 5.30 cu. ft. plus 10% for the irregular hole. smile
