Ever discover you had a ready made pier??

Took down an old basketball hoop in the backyard....There remained a nice stub end of a post, concreted into the ground. grin

I thought to myself, Hmmmmmmm......

So here's some pics of what transpired next.
First - your intrepid tinkerer, tapping some holes to mount his eq head.

Secondly - here's the head mounted on the pier - polar alignment is "rough" at best.
8" Hardin newt stuck on top of it. Oh, and my smiling self, naturally.

And yeah - it's a little close to the house, so North sky is a bit obscured.

Given the level of light pollution here in the Northeast Corner of Indianapolis, it really doesn't matter that much.

That's the best use of a basketball goal I've heard of! wink Just think no more tripping over tripod legs! Not to mention not having to store a tripod with the scope! I have two tripods on my patio and they take up a lot of room. I did notice a Polar alignment feature on your mount are you able to use it that close to the house?
