Hi All,
I am trying to plunge in first step in Observatory design.
Found a source to get 8in OD pipe or, a 8in square tube. The pipe wall is 1/8in where as the square tube wall is 1/4in. Cost of square tube is about 40% more than the pipe.
Please suggest if 8in pipe will be sufficient strenght to be a pier of 4ft length.

Thank you, Ansuman.

I have a 6" steel pipe topping off my 10" concrete pier. It is about 3' tall and works perfectly.
See my web site for pictures.

hi Ansuman; Do you live where their is city water or do you have well's.
If you have well's you cango down to the well driller and pick up a pc. of well caseing in 6",8" or 10" and most times they will just give it to you for free.
