Our messenger to the cosmos has left the building, now what? Of course it has the obligatory plaques and a gold-plated phonograph record that will yield some facts about our species if anyone ever finds them. Forty years later, here is an interesting review of the contents of Voyager's time capsule:

The politics and intrigue surrounding the selection of contents for the "messages" parallel what Gregory Benford described in his book Deep Time. Committees of uber-PC academics feud and fuss over "we're not worthy" vignettes for a 25 mm, laser-inscribed, sapphire disk left on Titan by the Huygens lander!
