The International Astronomical Union is the only organization recognized by astronomers as the official registry for the names of celestial objects. They charge no fees. The many who do are charlatans. Warn your friends and avoid the embarrassment of having such foolishness presented to you, the knowledgeable astronomer. wink

One small firm has sold over a million of these so-called registrations at about $50 each (usually more than $100 with options.) Their only significant expense is radio advertising, making their accomplices a tidy sum for putting their stamp of approval on this deceptive practice. wink
