Photo wash out problem (digital)

I keep getting this bright area in my shots, as in this one reflecting off the white tailgate of my pickup. you can see the "wash out" at bottom right of photo) chrome bumper . Any suggestions? thanks so much. I have a NIKON 800 Coolpix.. John Meiners Astoria, OR

I assume the lens is clean? It looks like a type of lens flare.

I would agree you would get that if you were taking pictures toward the sun, but you said you keep getting it, so I assume you get it wherever you shoot. Therefore, I am inclined to thing it is either dirt or something in the light path close to the chip or lens.
