James van Allen died

Hi all,

One of the giants of USA space science, James van Allen, has died at aged 91.

Most widely known for his discovery of the radiation belts surrounding the Earth that bare his name, van Allen was a widely respected scientist and educator. His passing is a great loss for the science community.

A sad day it is... sad
What a wonderful person, and what incredible contributions he left for all of us...

I'm sure he is in a much better place now...
