Hopefully at least a small segment survives reentry and lands in an accessible location so I can add it to my collection of space artifacts!

From the New York Times:

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon plans to shoot down a disabled 5,000-pound spy satellite within the next two weeks, before it tumbles from orbit, because the rocket fuel it carries could be a danger to people, Pentagon officials said Thursday.

Call me a cynic, but I don't believe for a moment the only reason they want to shoot it down is due to the hydrazine. The real reason could be anything else, nuclear device on board, spying illegally, advanced propulsion system etc. Too many objects have come down uncontrollably with dangerous components on board and no one has proposed firing up to three missiles at them.
Of course I'm interested in anyone else's view on this, for or against.
