Only a couple more days until the first flyby!! smile

The first picture has been released. Does not show much, but it is a start. Looking forward to the first science returns next week!

More about the mission here: http://messenger.jhuapl.edu/

Cheers,

Maurice

Late addition: Excellent write-up of proposed science during this flyby by Emily Lakdawalla of the Planetary Society. Good fodder for anyone interested in planetary science and exploration.

I was watching NASA TV today, and they said Mercury has a weak Magnetic field, and that it is possible that it might still have the parts of a liquid core. It also said Mercury has a thin atmosphere .Thanks Maurice for the update.
