As the shuttle program comes to an end, I thought this was an interesting article. I guess growing up during Apollo(I was 16 during Apollo 11), I just could never get extremely "excited" about the shuttle program. I do look forward to the planet exploration missions and the results from the various telescopes in orbit.

I recall feeling a bit of sadness when Apollo 17 ended. cwy In regard to the shuttle, I'm just somewhat indifferent. :S

It's a sad day for NASA and the US. Constellation was cancelled for political reasons. It was not as over budget and behind schedule as we were told. This has left the US with no manned space program. While I do support private industry space travel, it's in its infancy. I can't get excited about us hitching a, $50 million per ride, launch with the Russians. I bet it's at least 15 years before we see another NASA manned space launch.

I'm torn. I think in some ways the Shuttle (as it turned out...the original concept would have been a different thing) was a wrong turn. On the other hand, a lot WAS accomplished.

Interesting article on the shuttle program. In the article he mentioned the Mercury program and makes a comparison with the shuttle. My sentiments are the same as his; I just substituted Gemini.
