Forester's Hornblower series and Patrick O'brian's Aubrey/Maturin series, you might check out Alexander Kent's Richard Bolitho series. I bought about 2/3 of the books at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago and they are a good read. They are an action-oriented happy medium between the action of C.S.
