150 years ago, a massive earthquake, flash flood, and meteor impact where Las Vegas stands now might kill a cow or coyote, but if nothing else would add some real interest to the landscape (after the dust settled). Earth will be just fine.
Today such things would return Vegas to dust. The cost would be irrecoverable; scores of thousands would vanish with injured survivors dying by the minute.
Global warming - whether helped along by man or not - is not big deal for earth - just for man. If those event mentioned happened in a deserted area of Nevada, it would soon be a tourist attraction.
