The god almighty dollar

The U.S. dollar, having chopped sideways the last few months (after a 2-year-long downhill slide) looks 'weak', starting to lean to the downside once again.

With gold and commodity prices of all sorts climbing and oil hitting the $50 mark, and the current account deficit pushing 6% of GDP, some fairly ugly stars are coming into alignment.

Opinions? I'm... ah... a little concerned...

Paul: I'm with you. The auto industry makes money from financing, not cars. Mortgage lenders encourage you to finance more of what you couldn't afford in the first place because of no money down. You stick a plastic card in a pump and gas comes out. If you try to pay for gas chances are you will have to wait for the person in front of you to write a check for a pack of cigarrettes. I don't think many people have even seen a dollar lately, much less figure out what it is worth.
