Do you draw a conclusion about atheists from this?

Hi Doug,
First, the sign is tacky as can be, and I just don't like it. This is due in part to its judgmental nature, but mostly just because it lacks the dignity those firefighters deserve. If the intent is to honor them, name streets after each of them.

Second, as for the separation of church and state, the protesters are simply too thin skinned. Why not travel to St. Louis and complain about the name of that city or the many "St. Suburbs" surrounding it?

I can certainly see why you or any of us would doubt the credibility of the story. I wouldn't have used "Church & State" on this. Lack of dignity, perhaps due to a poor education system and the erosion of the English language, would have been reason enough.

As usual, the A/A Fundamentalists, like most fundamentalist portions of groups and organizations, are a little wacky and out to lunch ... and can't even read Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Hmmm...wasn't that a city government that put up the sign? Hmmm, is "heaven" an establishment of religion (i.e., a denomication or particular religion)? Of course not!
