You misspelled the adjective before sportscaster - it should have read grate-est for the affect on listeners nerves.

Granted he is almost solely a baseball announcer but my money goes on Vin Scully... Nobody calls as many games as a baseball announcer, now in his 80's, he has cut back to about 110 games a year...

He learned from one the best (Red Barber) and is the best IMHO...

"Barber mentored Scully and told him that if he wanted to be a successful sports announcer he should never be a "homer" (openly showing a rooting interest for the team that employs you, as many more modern sportscasters do), never listen to other announcers, and keep his opinions to himself."
