Blister Beetle

This Blister Beetle is about an inch long... here he is feeding on Indian Paintbrush flowers. They can spray a caustic chemical from the rear when threatened, and it can raise a blister. A rancher told me that these beetles are bad news for cattle, which eat the beetles along with the foliage. This can make cattle really sick. Photographed in Colorado National Park near Grand Junction.
