Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, CO: It's hard to grasp the depth and scale of this place, even when you're standing there. To give you an idea, imagine the Empire State Building standing on the bottom. It would reach about halfway up the canyon wall. The greenery on top of the distant cliffs are trees.

Moonrise over Black Canyon...
The skies would have been tremendous, but for the full moon. At 8,500 ft ASL and very clear, I could still see the milky way despite the extra light.

We lived near by many years ago. Great fishing there too! Plus a neat narrow rail train ride that is a wonderful way to see the place.

Another wonder of the Colorado landscape. The canyon is so narrow and deep that it's hard to find a location where you can get the scope of the canyon into the frame. Thanks, John.
