I want a Porsche 911 for my next car!

Hey all, this is my first time posting on the "Bad to the Bone Autos" forum, so bear with me if this isn't the type of discussion you all usually have here. If the purpose of this forum is mainly for guys to show off pics of cars that they already own, feel free to tell me to go away and sign up for hotrods.com or the like! 8)

I've really liked the Porsche 911 ever since seeing one in a early 1980s movie as a teenager (I know, this sounds pretty corny). Well, fast forward 30+ years, and now I'm a middle-aged guy (possibly having a mid-life crisis), who for the first time in his life finds himself in a financial situation where maybe he can get one (well, okay, that's if the CFO (i.e., wife) allows it!). It would help if I had a dealer nearby and could test-drive one, but unfortunately in my next of the woods, there aren't exactly Porsche dealers on every street corner. Have any of you ever owned (or at least driven) one of these? Are there any model years that I should stay away from? Any other advice? BTW, I'd be looking for a used one, as I can't palate the idea of dropping enough dough to buy a small house on a car!

Thanks in advance!

Clear skies,
Scott

Thanks, David! I probably won't need the sandbags, as I don't envision myself going 90+ mph unless I can find a track somewhere. wink

I worked for Porsche for a few years, drove a lot of 911, 912, 914 and other models. I like the 911, but it can eat you up if you do not watch it in the corners. When it lets go, it does it pretty much without warning and is hard to get it back.
But, they are really nice to drive, exciting and a good feel.

Have you got a car yet? Whattchya gonna get? Millions of astronomy geeks are living vicariously through you! No pressure though . . . wink

A guy I worked with had one and was happy with it until one day he had a flat, he put the donut spare tire on and found that the only place the flat tire would fit was on the passenger seat, tough choice - leave the tire or the fiancé behind on the road. I considered a Cayman but that doesn't even have a donut and no run-flats. Totally dumb designed cars for daily driving! A weekend toy only and a money pit too.

Sorry about the double post.  If I could figure out how to delete the duplicate on my iPad, then I would.
