Like your space saving approach by not attaching the truss mounts to the outside of the box.

I think if I had a scope that tall, I would buy me one of those wide treaded ladders so that it was easier on the feet. I saw some nice ones at Lowes. A friend has a Little Giant brand that is great, even has a big tray at the top that you can sit on or place things on like an EP tray. Treads are about 12-14" wide. Very nice to stand on for long looks. grin
