Maybe this is old news, but found a local fellow's site which has scans of some charming old gun magazine ads and articles.

This one is a favorite:

I would buy the semi-auto 20mm anti-tank rifle rather than the 25mm cannon, because it is doubtful that the 25mm cannon would fit thru the fence gate at the range . The ad copy is well-written and funny.

Hmmm....that advertisement has a good address for a spy novel. It looks like that Hunter's Lodge was in Olde Town Alexandria, Virginia, right by where the Interarms warehouse used to be. If you went down to the Potomac in the 90s, you'd find a gun shop there that had old crew-served 20mm or 25mm cannons and multiple rocket launcher trailers out front.

One time I stopped in there and a whole bus load of third world military folks in crazy Khadafi-looking uniforms stopped in front of the nearby Interarms office and went in. I guess the Pentagon brought them over to browse. The sign said their other offices were in Monaco and Switzerland. They are out of business now though.

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.

Fascinating stuff. I especially like the mortar ads, which suggest that they have "many practical uses," and will become "family heirlooms."
Here's an old ad that came in the original box with my dad's S&W K-22 that he bought in 1936. Check out the prices!
