Which is best 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP?

Has anyone asked which caliber is best for self-defense lately?

I go with 9mm because it's best for my wallet. But, there are other choices out there. What caliber do you guys think is best?

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.

15 high velocity hollow point 9mm rounds are pretty effective for the dollar. If that is not enough, well then I am doomed anyway. wink

My opinion is that the caliber is far less important than the ability and willingness to use it. 8O 8O grin

My favorite carry gun is the ever reliable Smith&Wesson Model 10. Mine is the 2" nickle version with Hogue grips. When loaded with 115gr. .38 +P JHP's I have a real stopper with very manageable recoil. Most calibers, from .22mag to .45ACP will do the job in the hands of a defense minded trained shooter. Any headshot will stop anyone. It's not the gun or the cartridge, but the shooter.

I really think there is only one legitimate answer to this question, and that is: The one that is closest to you when it is needed.

Any handgun is best used to fight your way to your rifle or shotgun.

That being said, how about a Fitz Gun in 45 LC:
