WE WANT YOUR JUNK GLASS! Pretty please??
Our club is trying to get the local ATMing community re-energized and we have a cool project for IYA. We are going to go out and try to have at least 1,000 different people grind on a mirror within a year. (December 20, 2008 to Dec 20, 2009) We are creating an online photo-mural of each person to document our efforts. http://www.spaceandastronomy.org/IYAGRIND.html
I have started with Nyx (my current 8" mirror project) and I have had several people take a turn on her but once I get past 80 grit I am reluctant to let her be used for public outreach again until she has a silver coat and a nice hard body.
If you have any junk glass that is seriously chipped or flawed (or not) that we could use as outreach glass we would be very grateful. If it isn't too heavy I can offer to pay for the shipping or if you are near I can probably send a member to come get it.
Even the smallest, chippiest, most humble bit of glass can find new life and purpose inspiring hundreds of folks who may have never touched a piece of glass. You will get great astro-karma and a big thank you on our website for the donation!
