The best IMHO...Blade Runner. Kicked myself for missing the opportunity to not see the "director cut" release that was playing in NYC a few months ago. The scene where that android gives that speech in the end about how all his memories "are like tears in the rain" and then the dove flys away...give me shivers just writing it!

I might have to vote for 2001, A Space Odyssey.

For mass entertainment value: Star Wars
For culture development: Dune
First best: Forbidden planet
The first that scared the crap out of me: The Day the Earth Stood Still.

For Really Old Nostalgia Buffs: War of the Worlds(first release).

I believe that education and or family issues kept me from ever seeing 2001. Will have to indulge.

I don't know it it's the best ever, but I nominate Alien. Not only great Sci Fi, it scared the bejebas out of me. 8O

THX1138, 2001, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original), Blade Runner, Forbidden Planet.

Generally remakes stink, but I really liked the remake of The Thing better than the original. The original Alien was good, as was Terminator. Twilight Zone had some pretty good episodes.

Personally, I thought that "Firefly" was the best and most interesting SciFi series ever made. If Fox hadn't moved it around, and had given it a fighting chance, I think that it would still be on. I have watched the series on DVD, as well as the movie "Serenity" two or three times, and always enjoy it.

Dang! I've got to jump in too.
Watched The Thing in my p/u at the drive-in theater & locked the doors.

Watched Alien in an empty theater at 11:00pm and hid in my seat.

Watched Them as a kid and hated ants & spiders ever since.

Watched Tarzan get stuck in a spider web and really hate spiders.
