magnesium tripods

Posted By Mark Visser

I called Bill Burgess today... the Magnesium tripods have arrived and are being shipped today and tomorrow....

This is the tripod Bill offered for 125.00 if purchased with the scope..

Just to refresh your memory...

The tripod has a rating of 100 lbs and the fluid head has a rating of
26lbs..

He had no news on the where abouts of the scopes when I called him..

Orion color Electronic imager

Posted By Mark Visser

Has anyone used this??

I would be interested in using this to capture some globular clusters, constellations and clusters like the coat hanger.... and lastly the moon...

I am using a 10" orion xt

Would this be ok for this??? Would I be better off with a color webcam??

Thanks

Too Picky??

Posted By Mark Visser

I was doing a star test the other night.. I had a decent circle on defocused outside but when I defocused inside it looked like a rough surface image or poor atmosphere image..

It was good on outside but not on inside...

1. is this a problem with the focuser?
2. If it is a problem with the optics how do you correct it?
3. Or am I just being plain too picky.... After all it seems to have no effect on my focused viewing..

Any info or suggestions??

thanks

any more news yet?

Posted By Mark Visser

I'll probably be selling the 102 f6 anyway to help finance my new 12" Dob..

Had a choice... Keep the Orion 10" xt and the Burgess or sell both to get the 12" Skymentor that just came out this summer.. Well I chose the 12"!!

Baffle thickness

Posted By Mark Visser

1.I used the newt program to determine the baffle location and depth of baffle in my dob... However it didn't mention the width. Should these be as thin as possible or does it matter?

2.In another post they mentioned rather than a full ring leave a 3" gap to help airflow.. Are these gaps staggared or do they run in a straight line..

3.Could you say maybe put in two 3 inch gaps in a single ring to help even more.

The newt program gives you a diameter to use if you are worried about airflow but thought I would investigate the gap method.

The dob has a 12 inch mirror and 14" diameter. I will be flocking the inside as well.

Thanks

tube currents

Posted By Mark Visser

When looking at an object defocused is it the fast currents that indicate tube currents or slow ones?? I can't remember which was atmosphere and which was tube..

Thanks
