I’d like to plan a 2017 California Unitron Star Party. I think the first step is to determine if we have a “critical mass” of potential participants.
Some thoughts:
• The event will be held in San Jose, California, the weekend of May 19-21, 2017.
• The event will be held in conjunction and in cooperation with the San Jose Astronomical Association.
• There will be an “in-town” star party at Houge Park, San Jose, on Friday, May 19.
• There will be a star party at a dark sky site in nearby Morgan Hill, CA, on Saturday, May 20.
• Star parties will be public events.
• Participants can meet at a location on Saturday and/or Sunday for display, swap meet, related seminars, telescope “fix it” sessions, dinner. This location is still to be determined. There may be a room we can use at Houge Park. Perhaps my office in Pleasanton, CA. Maybe we will have these events at a downtown San Jose hotel. Please stay tuned.
• The event will be open to all. The only requirement is an enthusiasm for Unitron telescopes and related equipment. Owning or even bringing a Unitron telescope is not required.
• The event is open to everyone from any geographic location. I know the location makes it difficult for many not located in the western geography. No excuses. You have eight months to plan!
• San Jose is a great location, 45 minutes from either Oakland or San Francisco, with lots of hotels, restaurants, and dependably clear May skies.
Please contact me and give me your email address if you are interested in attending. If we get enough interested people, we can then start planning the swap meet, workshops, and related events. Maybe even a meal.

One more thing: Have you restored a Unitron, collimated a Unitron, hacked a Unitron, or do you possess special knowledge or experience with these instruments or their history? Would you be willing to make a presentation to your colleagues? Think about it and let me know.
