Returning from 6 year absence...and..what happened

Posted By Rob Wiederrich

Astromart has become a Ghost town. No threads in Refractor or Reflector. ATM is void of activity.

What is going on or happened?

What binos will you be using for the eclipse?

Posted By Rob Wiederrich

I've run across many who will be viewing the upcoming eclipse with nothing but their eyes....so for my small party I bought some Baader solar glassed they are selling in the stores these days. But how about those who will be stepping it up to binoculars?
Personally I will be using my homemade 21X127 rolling tripod binoculars with Baader filters...and since the sun will be relatively low in the sky...little neck fatigue will be a problem.

What have you started making today?

Posted By Rob Wiederrich

Glad you asked....I began by turning a new 5" lens cell from a discarded aluminum high tolerance 1/4" thick lamp housing.
The forward flange is threaded and the cover has been removed so it can be chucked so I can part off the excess and turn down an edge so an aluminum tube can be slid over and bolted.

The inside is 5" with a cut away available for an *O* ring to support the objective. All in all, it turns out to be a fairly easy mod to create a quality lens cell. I have 4 to make.

Rob.

My account expires tomorrow.

Amart is mainly a market for buying & selling.

And if you're not buying & selling, why pay $15 ???

Very little ever happens in the Forums (expect, oddly enough, in all those categories like politics that have nothing to do with astronomy).

So, I'll once again disappear from Amart till I need to buy or sell something.

Have a good time everybody.

Joe

PS I was one of those who paid my $12 years ago for what was SUPPOSED to be a permanent membership.

Yes..I too first began as a life time member back in 97...then they changes to not using free email accounts and I got booted...then I came back on using my nickname and struggled with emails and the change over to a fee. I have been away for over 6 years but felt it time to poke back in and see who has remained...it looks bleak for sure...these days. We'll see what we can do.

What kinda BS Herb, and from whom?

I think I'm lost as to your point. :S

Personally....I think....back in the day, far too many of us spent way too much time in the non astronomical threads...and you too, exhausted yourself herding all the cats that were playing there. Since then...I've re-evaluated my social attitude and how I would prefer to represent the interests of the hobby. A lot has changed for both AM and myself..and I pray the time spent here will be very productive for myself and any I encounter.

This is where I met Thomas Back and Roland Christen and john Issacs to name a few. Men of integrity, respect and influence. I thank you for sucha place and hope for similar days.

Had two nights of clear skies, but with full Moon up, so could only shoot narrowband.
This image is composed of Ha and OIII, 15 x 20 minute subs. It's a bicolor image, OIII is used in green and blue channels. (needs lots more exposure, but running out of time and skies).

17" AP Astrograph, STL11K, 1600 mount, MaximDL.

Nice image Roland..very nice. Did you generate those star spikes or are they some artifact of diffraction in the Astrographs system?

Sweet.......Everyone had fun....and used some fine equipment.

I had my homemade 152mm f/9 and my homemade 21X127 binos all with baader filters.

Great time for sure....
