Garage Find - Cave Astrola 10-Inch Deluxe

Posted By Richard Oberg

Congrats! I have a Star-Liner 12.5" which I purchased new around 1980 and used for about a week before life/career took over but kept it with me. The images were spectacular! Am in the process of cleaning it up and starting again. You have a beaut - I'm searching for one just like yours to add to a growing flock and have the space fortunately and always wanted a Cave as they were finished out better than Star-Liners. My declination motor control box disappeared somewhere an there are three wires (that went to the two buttons controlling rotational direction as I recall) - any idea how to re-create that two button box? Best - Rich

Had to drive to Gaithersburg, MD to pick it up today and it’s now in my shop. Other than what’s portrayed in the pics below, optics and mirrors are a little dirty, but in great shape. All scope covers were left on during a very long storage.  Scope cleaned up nice and restoration work on the mount will be required.  Collimated the mirrors last night.  Have yet to see 1st light though.

For you Cave Astrola owners - please come in.  I have a few questions.
If you ever decide to part with this baby please let me know - I'm missing a 10" in the collection and this would probably be within driving distance.

Instructions on changing a rating?

Posted By Richard Oberg

Hi - I'm also having an issue related to feedback/ratings.

I just purchased three OTA's from Koji Matsumoto in the past couple weeks - a SP-FL-80s, GP-FL-80S, and a GP-FL-102S and all were advertised on Astromart.

All arrived in good condition but the OTA's have been repainted by 'rattle can' it appears without any mention in the ad - the finish isn't good but they were listed in 'excellent' condition. Only one remains listed - Classified #513407 for the GP-FL-80S (the other two have been removed) and I'm unable to give a rating.

Why not? He's not listed in my 'unused' ratings - perhaps because he contacted me directly via email and they were purchased that way?

I noticed that he has sold many scopes in the past years without any recent ratings received since 2018? Is using a personal contact to arrange a sale the way to avoid a rating?

Thanks.

Thanks for responding - what button on the ad?

Here's the lising: Classified No.: 513407

It says it's sold (it was - to me) - but I don't see anything on the page to allow me to post anything?

Appreciate it!
