Am not entirely with the idea that the polls were so wrong. While the polls did indicate that Biden was ahead in Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, they were all within the margin of error.

Polls generally have a margin of error of around 4%. So, for example, if a poll indicated that one candidate was up by 2%, that candidate could be up by as much as 6% or down by 2%.

Maybe the problem was not with the polls, but with the people using them without taking this into account.

With the way things are going in the senate and house, I wonder if the pending result for the president was more a vote against Trump rather than for Biden. There must have been quite a few "split ballots".

I also wonder how long it will be before campaigning begins for the 2024 election!! cwy

Hi Jim,

Switching from Saint Dodgeball for a minute.

I see that with the Dow soaring, the US $ has dropped substantially. Normally a drop in the value of a currency indicates a problem with an economy, but a jump in stock prices indicates an economy doing well.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the comments. I do find it strange that the US$ has dropped about 4% against the Aust$ since the election result was called. Especially since the Aussies have been trying to get their currency to drop against the US$ by dropping interest rates almost to 0 and massive bond buyback.

I wonder though if winning the senate might give the democrats a problem in 2022. If the republicans had held the senate and moscow mitch had done his usual blocking, it would have given the democrats some good election fodder. Now they will have to get things done that will keep the progressive side happy without alienating the moderates. That will be a tight line to walk.
