Six inch f6 Mirror

Posted By Jack Day

Just wondering which it is. (f/6 or f/4) Also, you need to mention is this from inside the RoC or outside? My hope is this is from inside the Radius of Curvature. If so the mirror does have some correction. Too much or two little, it is hard to say.

alt-az vs GEM

Posted By Jack Day

As far as I understand it the Alt Az versions will suffer from field rotation during long exposure astrophotography. There are devices you can buy to counter this though.

Hope this helps.

2" 26mm Burgess SWA-- what is the fov?

Posted By Jack Day

Hi Larry,

I have a 26mm Burgess SWA. I have only had a chance to use it twice since I bought it 5 months ago. I do know that I really liked the eyepiece, and that barlowed it mage one heck of a 16mm, with even a bit better edge correction. As far as FOV goes I would say it is very close to the 70 degrees. I am keeping my 38mm SWA, but I am considering selling the 26mm as I need to raise some money for a new trumpet. ( I also play trumpet in The Sound of Music for the Leavenworth Summer Theater) My horn is needing replaced...

Back on topic. I like the 26mm, and found that on scopes that were f\5 or slower they looked pretty good. Considering the price... Very good.

Hope this helps. Any questions feel free to ask.

Fort Apache: N.O.

Rod, In the future I suggest you double check your facts before posting:

It is true: Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six.

Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers.

CNN got it wrong at first, as situations like this show it is incredibly difficult to know what is going on when you are looking at 96,000 square miles of destruction. Everyone is rushing to judgement, and to place blame. This is not a positive way of dealing with a crisis such as this.

I don't mean this in a negative way, it is just sometimes better to let things sort themselves out.

Ebony Star discontinued?

Posted By Jack Day

One thing that I have learned about Wilsonart's Ebony star is that it is a color or pattern, and not limited to one singel finish (or texture) The texture (or finish) of the laminate is was ATM's are looking for, and IIRC the texture we talk about is what Wilsonart calls a #50 finish. It is available on many colors of the laminate. So even if they do discontinue Ebony Star, as long as the finish #50 is available we should be ok... The catch is that the #50 finish is no longer listed with the standard finishes, but seems to be replaced with the #60 finish.

Just an fyi..

ever seen a dobsonian mount for a cassegrain?

Posted By Jack Day

You would likely wand to build an offset Dob. mount like that used for a refractor. In this example a local rock would serve as the counterweight. Also you would likely need to build a box to hold the tube and attach the side bearings to.

Another option would be to build something similar to Orion's 6" starblast design that folds.

"I Want Obama To Fail"

Posted By Jack Day

Look,

I know you all hate Rush, and Bush of course. But sometimes you have to look past your knee jerk reactions. Rush gave four examples of issues with which he and Obama potentially disagree.

If Obama wants to nationalize healthcare.

If Obama wants to nationalize the banking system.

If Obama wants to nationalize the mortgage industry.

If Obama wants to Nationalize the auto industry.

If Obama wants to do the above, then yes Rush, and many other Americans including democrats, are opposed to this. This is what Rush was talking about. Not about Obama's Presidency as a whole.

If you believe that something is bad for our country should you not oppose it, hope it fails? Is that un-American?

Lets hope that with good and reasoned debate that solutions to current issues can be found that are good for all of us, and our kids. I want that, Rush wants that, believe it or not...

You all were in the role of "Devils Advocate" for the past eight years. I expect you now feel your positions justified. Did you not oppose most of what Bush did? Did you not want him to fail at some of his "grand efforts"?

Food for thought...
