Cemax Eyepiece Set

Posted By Craig Levine

The Cemaxes are excellent in Ha (I have a Maxscope 40). The simpler EP designs, like UO Orthos are also excellent. I find that the standard and newer HD Orthos are very close to the Cemaxes in terms of sharpness and clarity of the image, though at a smaller AFOV. Naglers (type 6) are ok, but the extra lens elements result in more light scatter and a redder background i.e. reduced contrast. My Pentax 10.5mm XL has a dimmer image than expected. I recommend a neutral density filter or variable polarizing filter as well. These really help to bring out surface detail.

Cheers,

- Craig

Canadians purchasing from the States

Posted By Craig Levine

I'm a Canuck and I've bought a fair bit from the 'mart. There is a not-bad Canadian buy/sell/trade site. Do a Google search under CANADA-WIDE ASTRONOMY BUY & SELL if you want to find it, but Astromart has more. I also encourage you to pop into Anacortes Telescope and Wild Bird if you get a chance. My wife and I were in Vancouver this Fall, and we took a drive down to Anacortes, where I was only allowed to spend a little :-(

I did not leave with either the set-up to my left nor right...

Astro-Physics vaporware complaint

Posted By Craig Levine

Right. Rolando is designing new products and working on his business plan. After crunching the numbers, it looks like it makes sense to consolidate the line into two new products. You knew that there was a long waiting list for AP's products AND that if they drop a line, your place on the list for the old product would be consolidated into the new product. This has been their history, and has been printed clearly on their product sign-up info. You are shocked and surprised...why?

AP is a small company in a niche market. They have to be nimble in order to adjust to the market. At the end of the day, you are still high up in line for a VERY much in demand product. Why should they continue to manufacture a product that their business model says that it makes no sense to make, when 1.) it makes more sense to manufacture another product, and 2.) they warned you that this may happen.

Vapourware? GARBAGE! They have made the 600 for several years. When you added your name to the list it was still in production. Things change. You were made aware that things could and probably would change. Get over it. You'll more than likely get something better. If you're still really cranky, I'll buy out your place on the list. Seriously.
