I just bought my dad one of these. I can't wait to start seeing photos from him. Maybe I can drag him into birding.

Mount for Astrophotography?

Posted By Chris Nardone

Urmas Leming from 59¤N,
I am in the same boat as you looking at all of these mounts. For your needs (8" SCT + whatever other loads) I would rate these mounts: CGEM, Atlas EQ-G, HEQ 5 Pro, Orion Sirius EQ-G, CG-5, LXD75.
That's based on reported capacity, tracking accuracy, presence of PEC, and finally noise of motors.
I have googled and found very good reports of the CGEM.

Someone out there is thinking I am a rocket scientist, because I believe that order follows exactly with price.

BiggerSmaller Scopes: Which refractors break down?

Vixen ED100SF - 3.94" f/9 ED APO Refractor OTA
optcorp
weighs 8.2 lbs. comes complete with a case. I've been pondering it, but I think I want a fast widefield 80 and then later a second tandam 120ish long focal length.
