Galaxy - IC 342

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image of IC 342. It is an object mostly obscured by the dust of our own galaxy. I have attached a mid sized image, but a full size image can be accessed at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/IC342.htm

Scope was C8 at f/5.1, camera was an Artemis285.

I had to expose fairly long (for me). And the data was still a bit noisy - I had to do a fair amount of noise reduction.

Horsehead Season

Posted By Jim Thommes

Hi All,
Here is a horsehead I did recently. I have attached a mid size image, but full size image and exposure / processing detils are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/Horsehead.htm

I did use HA exposures for the Luminance construction along with some straight luminance exposures.

Horsehead and Flame

Posted By Jim Thommes

Recently I posted a Horsehead image. Dan pointed out that my webpage header, by editorial mistake, promised a Flame as well. (Thanks for that catch Dan.) Here is a wider field image that has the Horsehead, Flame and other friends. I have attached a midsize image, but a full size image as well as exposure and processing details are at:

Scope was my Megrez II at f/3.8 and the camera was an Artemis285

M74 Galaxy

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is a shot of M74. This one always seems to be a challenge for me. I have attached a mid size thumbnail but a larger image as well as exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/M74.htm

This is a 2x2 bin luminance in this image in order to get sufficient signal. Scope was my C8 at f/8 and the camera was an Artemis285.

Western Heart

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image of the Western portion (right side) of the Heart Nebula. It is the region in the general vicinity of LBN655 and LBN656. I have attached a mid size image, but a full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/LBN655-56.htm

The full frame image of the Heart Nebula is here: (note that the two images are separated in orientation by 90 degrees):

This was done on my drivway with substantial light pollution. Thank goodnes for HA filters.

M38 Region

Posted By Jim Thommes

This image shows some of the region around M38. In addition to M38 there is the open cluster NGC1907 and two nebulas - IC417 and NGC1931. Sorry for the poor focus. I have attached a mid size image, but a full size image as well as exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/M38.htm

Luminance channel was a mix of visual wideband and H-Alpha data.

Crab Nebula

Posted By Jim Thommes

Late in December I took an image of the Crab Nebula. This object is a fun target. I enhanced the Luminance exposure with an H-Alpha exposure before doing an RGB combine. I have attached a mid size image, but a full size image and exposure and processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/crab.htm

Scope was my C8 at f/8, Camera was the Artemis285. HA:L:R:G:B - 42:20:8:8:8

M81 Galaxy

Posted By Jim Thommes

Tom Davis recently posted a lovely image of M81. I have attached a version I worked on from data taken under pretty good conditions. The attached is a mid size image, but at full size image with exposure and processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/M81.htm

The Scope was my C8 at f/5.6 and the camera was the Artemis285.
