M44 Mosaic

Posted By Jim Thommes

I had taken this image on an evening of poor seeing in early February - so I stuck to wide field objects. I have attached a mid sized
thumbnail. A full size image can be seen at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/M44Beehive.htm

The scope was my Megrez II at f/2.6 and the camera was my ToUcam SC3. Exposure and
processing details are on the page at the link above.

Saturn 08 Feb 2005

Posted By Jim Thommes

I'm not a very frequent poster on the Solar system forum, but early February there was an evening with fairly good seeing so I decided to image Saturn - I usually do DSO's but this evening was too good to pass up. I took an exposure with my C8 at about f/24. I thought I could go a little further and took another exposure at about f/32. I processed both and also did the f/32 exposure sampled up 1.5. I have attached the up-sampled image. This image as well as the other images can be accessed at:

The camera was a Vesta 690 with the Non-RAW mod.

NGC 1877 Reflection Nebula

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an Image I exposed back in February but have just finished processing now. It is the reflection Nebula NGC 1788. I imaged this at one of my favorite dark sites here in Southern California. I have attached a mid sized thumbnail; a full size image and exposure and processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC1788.htm

Scope was a C8 at f/2.8 and the Camera was my ToUcam SC3. This is an LRGB composite image.

Eskimo NGC 2392

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image I took recently of the Eskimo Nebula. I attached a mid sized thumbnail but full size image as well as exposure and processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/Eskimo.htm

I use my C8 scope and ToUcam SC3 RAW Camera.

One thing I did in the processing was to reduce the blue a little in the nebula area. I found that the blue seemed to overpower the details in red.

Southern Open Part II - NGC 2451

Posted By Jim Thommes

I recently posted an image of NGC 2477. Here is one of its neighbors, NGC 2451. It is a looser cluster with a little more color.

I have attached a mid sized thumbnail, a full size image as well as exposure and processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC2451.htm

Scope - Megrez II ED at f/2.6, Camera - ToUcam SC3 RAW.

Galaxy - NGC 1232

Posted By Jim Thommes

I hesitate to post this, but forum trafic has been a bit light so I will. I don't know why, but I was a bit challenged with this object. The seeing might have been tough and that softened the image somewhat. I did apply 4 iterations of Richardson-Lucy deconvolution with some improvement. I have attached a midsized thumbnail. A full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC1232.htm

Scope was my C8 at f/5, Camera was my ToUcam SC3 RAW

OK, This is the last of my open clusters for a while - I really got into imaging some of them the last month.

M65 and M66

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image of M65 and M66 in a 30" field. The seeing was good for me and the skies were dark (mid February) and I was pleased with the exposure data. I have attached a mid size thumbnail. A full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/M65-66.htm

Scope was my C8 at f/2.8 (Meade F3.3 focal reducer), Camera was my ToUcam SC3 RAW.
