Gamma Cygni Nebula IC 1318

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image of part of the Gamma Cygni Nebula (IC 1318). It spans about 2 degrees horizontally. I have attached a mid sized thumbnail. A full size image and exposure / processing details can be seen at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/GammaCygni_IC1318.htm

This image did present some challenges with the bright star Sadr in the same field as the nebula itself. I think that the Artemis285 handled the dynamic range reasonably well. Of course the CCD is anti-blooming.

Scope was my Megrez II at f/3.2 Camera was the Artemis285.

M20 Trifid Nebula

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image of the Trifid from early July. I also worked a H-Alpha exposure set into this image for improved contrast. I have attached a mid size thumbnail, but a full size image and exposure / processing details can be seen at:

Scope was my C8 at f/4.8 Camera was the Artemis285.

NGC6946 and SN2004ET

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image I took of the galaxy NGC6946 which also shows the increasingly dim SN2004ET. I have attached a midsize image, but a full size image can be accessed at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC6946.htm

The full size image has an arrow pointing to the location of SN2004ET. It looks like SN2004ET is getting kind of red...

Scope was my C8 at f/6.9, Camera was the Artemis285. Image taken 8-July-2005

Total exposure time is about 67 minutes.

M22

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image of the Globular Cluster M22. I did take this one with cloudy skies. We have a monsoon weather pattern going here in San Diego that I hope breaks soon.

I have attached a mid size thumbnail. A full size, full resolution image as well as exposure and processing details are available at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/m22.htm

Scope was my C8 at f/5.1, the camera was the Artemis285

Exposure time was a short 28 minutes.

NGC 6914 Emission Region

Posted By Jim Thommes

Greetings,
Sorry, I have been away from the list for a while, but I have mangaged to get out for one image.

I have attached an image I took early August of the emission region around NGC 6914. I have attached a midsize thumbnail, but a full size image and exposure processing details can be accessed at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC6914Region.htm

Scope was my Megrez II at f/4.3, Camera is the Artemis285.

The exposure time was 40:15:8:8:8 HA:Lum:R:G:B.

Globular Cluster NGC 6712

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is a globular cluster pretty much in the middle of the Milky Way. Unlike some of the brighter globulars in the galactic plane, this one is a little hard to pick out of the dense star field. A full size image as well as exposure and processing details can be accessed at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC6712.htm

Scope was my C8 at f/6.9, Camera was the Artemis285.

Exposure Time L:R:G:B 24:10:10:10.

Pelican - IC5070

Here is an image under a full moon. OK with the HA, the RGB shots required care and attention in the processing.

I have attached mid size thumbnail. A full size image with exposure and processing details are at:

M15 - (Ho-Hum)

Posted By Jim Thommes

I was out in my driveway a while back - heavy light pollution - and got this of M15. Not such an exciting target and I have always been challenged by it - small bright core and difficult to resolve. I have attached a mid size image but a full size image and exposure / processing details can be seen at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/M15.htm

Scope is C8 at f/10 Camera is Artemis285. L:R:G:B - 15:8:8:8

"The Wall" NGC 7000

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image I took of "The Wall" portion of the North American Nebula. I used 2 scopes, my Megrez II and my C8 with the Meade f/3.3 reducer. By combining images from the two scopes, the C8 can capture central detail well, while the Megrez produces good edge stars and image.

I have attached a mid size image. A full size image with exposure and processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC7000Wall.htm

Total exposure time was 74 minutes.
