Planetary Nebula - NGC 6781

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is a planetary nebula in Aquila. It is taken in a 19' field which may be somewhat large for this object. The last image I posted was a 180' field so this image is toward the opposite end of my range. I have attached a midsize image, but a full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC6781.htm

Scope was a C8 at f/8; Camera was an Artemis285.

Total exposure time was 84 minutes.

Here is a quick image of the open cluster NGC 6811. I have attached a mid sized image, full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC6811.htm

Scope was a C8 at f/4.2, Camera was an Artemis285.
Time - 34 minutes.

NGC 7822

Posted By Jim Thommes

This is a combined exposure image from exposures with my C8 and my Megrez II. I still struggle with distortion with my Meade 0.33x FR on the C8, so edge star correction and color come from the Megrez. I have attached a mid size image, but a full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/NGC7822.htm

Scopes were C8 at f/3.1 and Megrez at f/6.25, Camera was Artemis285

M31 - Andromeda

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an image made with an SLR lens. (I have been trying lenses lately for wide field). It is a familiar object - M31. I have heard some recommend stopping down an SLR lens a step or two for better results. I took some luminance exposures at f/3.5 and some at f/4.5. The f/4.5 images came out clearly better with less star bloat. Of course exposure time was increased accordingly to achieve the same signal strength. I am only showing the f/4.5 data in this image.

I have attached a mid size image - a full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/m31.htm

Lens was a Vivitar 180mm telephoto, camera was an Artemis285.

Total exposure was a relatively short 63 minutes.

Andromeda Revisited

Posted By Jim Thommes

I had recently posted an M31 - thanks to all for the helpful comments - Warren K. especially. I corrected my error and I believe got better star color and eliminated a blue cast to the background. My red exposure data is usually somewhat intense - in my normal processing I usually attenuate it some and I did so here. So this image pretty much following my normal routine. Not the same level of red as in Warren's, but I am happier with it than my original.

I have attached a mid size image, but a full size image can be accessed at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/m31.htm

The original image with the green channel error can still be accessed for comparison purposes at:

California Nebula - RGB and HA

Posted By Jim Thommes

Ralph, Brian and Stuart have posted some excellent images on this object. I thought I would check in with a version I recently finished.

I have attached a mid size image; full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/California%20Nebula.htm

Scope was my Megrez II at f/3.1; Camera was an Artemis285.

Exposure time 64 minutes Luminance and HA, 24 minutes color.

Emission Nebula LBN 656

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is an object part of the larger IC1805 complex known as the "Heart Nebula". I have attached a mid size image, a full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/LBN656.htm

Scopes used were my C8 at f/3.1 and Megrez at f/6.25, Camera was an Artemis285.

Total exposure - 94 minutes. A full field "Heart" is on its way...

IC 1805 - Heart Nebula

Posted By Jim Thommes

I have completed a full wide field image of the Heart. This was made with a Vivitar 180mm SLR lens. I have attached a mid size image, but a full size image and exposure / processing details can be accessed at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/IC1805.htm

Optics were a 180mm SLR lens at f/3.5. Camera was an Artemis285.

A relatively short exposure time...

Flaming Star HA-RGB

Posted By Jim Thommes

Here is one I shot November 5, 2005. The green and blue exposures had a lot of data in them - that surprised me. So the nebula colors have more than the usual red. I left the nebula a bit pinkish. Anyway, I attached a mid size image, a full size image is at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/flamingstar.htm

Scope was my C8 at f/3.1, camera was my Artemis285

Here is an image of IC 410 near the Flaming Star nebula in Auriga. I have attached a mid size image. A full size image as well as exposure and processing details can be accessed at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/ic410.htm

Scope was a combined effort of my C8 at f/3.1 and my Megrez II at f/6.25, Camera was my Art285. Ha:L:R:G:B - 35:24:10:10:10

Just for grins, earlier versions of images I made of this object are here:

Sorry they are not all the same orientation.
