Mobile Observatory

Posted By Merlin Raymond

I am cuuently finishing mine up this winter. Do a search for Star Shooter Mobile Observatory in the forums section here and you will find many photos of construction. There are many problems that will arise but none of them I haven't found a way to overcome. If you have any questions I would be glad to help, just drop me a line.

Gearhead motor source?

Posted By Merlin Raymond

I'm using a 2000 lb winch from Harbor freight. It should do the job all by it's self.

Hey Larry! You don't think the great grey nebula will show up again this year? I have a feeling this will be another clouded out party this year. Let us know how the weather turns out.

Witch Dome For My Observatory Help???

Posted By Merlin Raymond

Taha: You might take a look at the Cloudy nights website"http://www.cloudynights.com". There is a new dome coming on the block that is going to turn the industry on it's ear. The company name is Polydome. Google them and leave Dan an E-Mail. I think you will be suprised.

Skyshed Pod

From what I can gather it will be a reasonable competition for the Explora-Dome. I guess it will depend on whether you want a dome complete in a seven foot round configuration or if you want to do some of the work yourself and build an eight foot custom. I will admit I have a dog in this fight. I was one of the first to build using a calf barn and have been in on the design and discussion of the Explora-Dome for many months. My money is on the Explora-Dome. It's bigger, appears to have more flexibility in design and I'll bet cheaper. Time will tell. One thing is for sure; the day of the $5000.00 dome is going to change and for the better I feel.
