LX200 PEC Error Rate too High?

Posted By William Russell

I have a 10" Lx200 Classic Mounted on a Perm Pier in a dome away from wind and vibrations. I recently started astrophotography with this scope and behold a 60" 'PEC' error noticable on an 8min exposure WOW! (repeted several times) I was surprised on how great this error was.

Has anybody else seen an error this big. or is this average for a 10"lx200c

I will try to train the error out and report back.

Looking for Advice and Parts to build an APO.

Posted By William Russell

Done the mirror thing for over 20 years. Made several thanks to Optica BC (Long live Optica) But I recently have a hankering to find an APO or Semi APO Primary ( not grinding this one ) and machining the rest. Anybody have any ideas on where to find one?

My Convertible Observatory

Meade Lx200c 10” with ‘Mini Meade’ on a perm pier w/ swedge. The pier is a 7” by 1/4" by 36" pipe I hade welded with plate and bolted to concrete. All surrounded by a Rubbermaid 6x6x6 Shed with a removable roof. I get a surprisingly good angle of attack and only loose about 20 deg. Everything runs on USB into the house (1 cable excluding power) I live in Colorado (as you can see by the house farm behind me) so it gets really really cold and its nice to work inside.

Any comments besides sweeping and shooting out my neighbors lights would be welcome.

Meade lx200 14" Under-mounted?

Posted By William Russell

if the 12" is under-mounted shouldn’t the 14" be hopelessly under-mounted if its on the same mount as the 12"?

Thinking about getting one but still unshure.

How to align a Lx200 12" OTA?

Posted By William Russell

The question is.... I can't flip the 12" on its back to align the OTA.

Q. How can I prodeuce the same results as stated below?
Q. How can I remove the DEC Hard Stops?

The procedure I used on my 10" Classic Provided Dead On GOTO! It went
something like this.

1. Get some locking Machine Screws for the 4 OTA bolts ( Meade Has
suplied the Holes but not the bolts!)

2. Focus on an oblect at exactly 90Dec and 0Az. ( it doesn't have to
be exactly 0,90 but it does help the math)

3. Flip The OTA exactly 180 and AZ 180.

4. Loosten the OTA bolts slightly and center 1/2 way using the
locking bolts.

5. Repeet till the weee hours of the morning till its perfect.

6. Do a 2 star alignment, Vola! Great GOTO ( Of course Backlash
should be compinsated for in this porcedure)

Any help is welcome

My New Focus Toy ( another Invention by WPR)

Posted By William Russell

For thoes of you who care.

For my lx200GPS I needed a way of switching between my 1206 ( Mirror Focuser ) and my JMI NGF-S ( Crayford Type ) through both USB and Manual. ( I run everything on USB from inside )

Introducing the JustFocus ( No Advertisment implied Herb!)

It automatically switches between the JMI and the 1206 ( Yes on a GPS ) Additionally it has a manual switch if operated from the Scope. The software switch is handled through A USB autmatic relay controled by a Custom Ascom Driver which is shared in MaximDL

Comments are welcome!
