Nice image Eric and welcome back!!

However, I notice a strange "patch" of lighter color around the image, which could be improved by eliminating it, IMHO.

Ciao Eric and... don't be a stranger wink

Hi Luca,

Thanks! The patch, which I noticed this morning also, is caused by capturing in twilight. This time of year, Jupiter slips below the treeline if I don't capture before darkness. Before I settle on the final composite, which I'm still working on, the non-black background will be eliminated.

Hi Alan,

Yes, the Mac is doing a fine job. The monitor still shows images a little too brightly, but I'm working on it.

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Joe,

The DMK21AF04 is definitely a winner. I own one myself, although my success with it has been limited due to lack of time. However, when I find the time, it has proven successful several times. The noise level is indeed low, as Alan pointed out. Lower than at least one well known camera at 4x higher cost.

I initially started off with a Toucam Pro 740 and then 840. I also had the b&w version of the Toucam. IMO, the b&w version is the way to go if you want to save up for the DMK later. Many of my best images came from the b&w version using color filters. There is a noise reduction software modification that helps to greatly reduce noise over the standard configuration.

Don't forget that, no matter what, seeing will be the ultimate factor in image quality. No camera or software can totally compensate for poor seeing, although software, such as Registax 4 and IIDC, is getting closer all the time.

Good luck,
Eric

Is there no way to rate someone if they had to use PM's instead of normal way to reach me?

Posted By Eric Todd

Recently sold an item and want to rate the buyer, but buyer's only apparent way of reaching me was through private messages and not the normal way the ad is responded to.  They tried to respond the normal way and messages weren't reaching me, but I did get notified about their PM in my regular email read, so that's how the transaction took place... through the PM's, so I'm looking for a way to rate them.  Thank you.
