My sincere thanks to Richard Nelson for the loan of his fine scope.

Comments appreciated.

NGC 6888 Crescent Nebula

Posted By Dennis Persyk

My image of the Crescent Nebula is at
http://home.att.net/~dpersyk/new.htm

MX 716 camera on NP101, 4-inch refractor at f/5.4. 61 x 90 second unguided image stack.

I have processed and processed but just can’t seem to bring out the nebulosity in this subject. I assume the 1/3 moon present during the acquisition is responsible for the weak looking nebulosity. Usually 1 1/2 hour’s worth of acquisition yields a better image for me than this one. Perhaps also the Crescent is a tougher target than most.

Bubble Nebula in Hydrogen-alpha

Posted By Dennis Persyk

My Bubble Nebula in H-alpha is at
http://home.att.net/~dpersyk/new.htm

TV NP101, MX716 CCD, STAR 2000 guider and AP1200QMD mount.

This is my first success at H-a imaging. The image was taken at full moon and the H-a filter makes a great moon pollution filter.

Saturn Image

Posted By Dennis Persyk

Saturn image, simulated eyepiece view and short video illustrating the seeing that night at
http://home.att.net/~dpersyk/new.htm

Please take a look.

I would like feedback on the simulated eyepiece view – I tried to process the eyepiece image to reflect what I saw. Is this what Saturn looks like to you?

I was utterly amazed at the results given the poor conditions. The webcam is a very forgiving instrument for planetary imaging indeed!

Bubble Nebula in Hydrogen-alpha

Posted By Dennis Persyk

I realized that my grey-scale H-alpha Bubble nebula image would look red in color. I colorized it in Maxim DL. The image is at

Comments invited.

Comet 2P Encke Images

Posted By Dennis Persyk

Here are static and animated images of 2P Encke taken with my NP101 (4-inch refractor at f/5.4) and MX716 camera.
http://home.att.net/~dpersyk/new.htm

Note: The movie downloads last and is 900 kB. If you don’t want to wait you can just look at the static images. Sorry -I just couldn’t compress it any more!

Comments and suggestions welcomed.

2P/Encke Images

Posted By Dennis Persyk

I have posted images of 2P/Encke taken at 0030 UT on Nov 25 with my 4-inch refractor at
http://home.att.net/~dpersyk/new.htm

I have included a fast download movie encompassing 24 minutes of tracking. There is also a simulated “eyepiece” view through my 11-inch SCT at 64X magnification. VLM was about 3.0 last night, typical for me. When you see my eyepiece view you will understand why I prefer imaging.

Comments and suggestions most welcome.

2P/Encke’s last light?

Posted By Dennis Persyk

Last night I observed and imaged this comet for what may be the last time. I caught it shortly after sunset as it was sinking in the west. I was amazed to see it vividly in the eyepiece with a deep golden/greenish color. This was the brightest I have ever seen it, and it was only 11 degrees above the horizon. It is now sinking fast in the west and this may have been my last view of it.

NGC 7380 Emission Nebula

Posted By Dennis Persyk

This emission nebula is located in constellation Cepheus. It is very faint and only visible in 12 inch or larger scopes from a very dark site. I imaged it with a full moon using a Hydrogen-alpha narrow band filter that blocks out all of the moon light and passes only the hydrogen gas glow.

Comet C/2002/T7 Images and Movie

Posted By Dennis Persyk

Comet C/2002 T7 LINEAR is brightening nicely this winter. I have an image taken 13 Dec 0206 UT and a small movie (158 kB) illustrating its motion over a period of 37 minutes at
http://home.att.net/~dpersyk/new.htm

Please take a look and let me know your impressions. Was the download time OK for you?
