M45 with D60

Posted By Johannes Schedler

I would like to post a newer M45 image, aquired from the October ITT star party in Autria at dark skies.

Details to the image are found at the link:
http://panther-observatory.com/deepsky.htm#54

More impressions from the star party with the D60:

It is a pleasure to work with that camera, especially at dark slies!

Tripod shot with D60

Posted By Johannes Schedler

As there is a jet stream passing with very bad seeing, yesterday I
tried a long term shot over 2 hours exposure time (10x600sec).
Even with the moon up it turned out quite nice.
See details and image at:

IC 1805 and 1848 with D60

Posted By Johannes Schedler

At a quite clear night I could get the 2 faint emission nebula as a 2 part mosaic with the D60 and a piggibacked 180mm lens with total 70 minutes real exposure time plus darks.
see:
http://panther-observatory.com/deepsky.htm#57
The processing took quite a long time to get the faint parts out;

Ron's tip with the minimum-darken filter applied to the blue channel helped very much to get rid of the strong halo (coma?) in the blue.

Saturn - Nov 8

Posted By Johannes Schedler

After return from travelling I was able to process my Saturn videos from last week. 2400 frames processed in Registax, see details at:
http://panther-observatory.com/planet.htm#25

So far the best seeing this hunting season.
When aiming to Jupiter later in the evening the good seeing was gone...

Nice to see a Saturn shot from the same date (Yu Gu) here!

Focus on Orion

Posted By Johannes Schedler

Best wishes for 2003 and many clear nights to all of the forum!

After 8 frustrating weeks with covered skies it cleared up finally.
I like to share 2 of my latest shots of the Orion area, both with a
105mm TMB refractor and 0,8 Televue reducer/flattener and D60 digicam.

see details at:

Saturn near M1

Posted By Johannes Schedler

2 days before the transit of Saturn in front of M1 I tried imaging on this
uneven pair with my D60 digicam.
2 x 300 sec with a 4" APO refractor at f/5.

more details and image with labels at:
http://panther-observatory.com/deepsky.htm#60

Have not seen many images yet on this item.

first widefield H-alpha image with Canon D60

Posted By Johannes Schedler

Yesterday I managed to get first photons through my 50mm lens at f/1.4 with a 15 nm Astronomics H-alpha filter in front.
Signal was quite noisy, but sufficient to get Barnard's loop even with moon up at mag 4 sky. The H-alpha was combined with a previous taken white light shot.

details at:
http://panther-observatory.com/constellations.htm#10
and in the Canon_D60 review (section tips).

Comet Neat

Posted By Johannes Schedler

Yesterday evening I was able to image first time this nice little comet. Visually almost no tail in the bad sky, but the imaging with a D60 and 4" refractor still gave a nice result with a 3 degree tail, see imaging details at:
http://panther-observatory.com/comets.htm#8

Have a look at the nice animation of the comet Neat, taken with a MX916 camera from my friend Michael Karrer here in southern Styria:

California Nebula

Posted By Johannes Schedler

A dark clear night enabled a deep image of the California Nebula - NGC1499.
Total 2 hours exposure time with the D60 and the 4" TMB refractor at f/5, see:
