Potential vignetting Problem?

Posted By Kurt King

Fellow ATM's, Will there be a vignetting problem if I use a 12" ID tube with an 11" F/5.6 primary? Should I go with a 14" ID tube? I already have a 2.6 MA secondary. Thanks for your valuable opinions.

Siebert Optics Eyepieces

Posted By Kurt King

How do you folks rate Siebert Optics eyepieces? Especially on large fast dobs(19"F/4) He has a comprehensive website and makes different eyepieces for various observing situations. Does anyone own one of the 2-4MM high power eyepieces?

Orion's SkyView Pro EQ Mt. How good?

Posted By Kurt King

Does anyone use Orions SkyView Pro Equatorial Mount with polar scope & True Track Dual Axis DC drives. I would be very interested in knowing what ya'll think of this system for a 5" F/7 refractor. Thanks guys.

Can we talk about Siebert eyepieces?

Posted By Kurt King

My Telescope Brothers & Sisters.I am awed by the vast amounts of Naglers, Pentaxs, & other high priced eyepieces bandied about. Am also discouraged to see that there is no discussion of Siebert and/or Russell eyepieces as a real option for large, fast dobs. I for one would like to hear of your personal experiences with these eyepieces as I will be needing(2"?) eyepieces for my 19" F/4. I currently have no eyepieces but wish to make some informed purchases based on performance AND COST EFFECTIVENESS. I have faith in your experiences. Thanks.

Extension tube needed

Posted By Kurt King

Friends. In aquiring a 5" refractor, two barlows(minus the optics) are used to extend the focus far enough back that the eyepieces will focus. This arrangement is too wobbly. Can you help with a dealer who sells a solid extension tube, if that is even what it is called? Thanks.

Parracor+2" EP=Naglers-Panoptics?

Posted By Kurt King

In actual use, has anyone gotten results with a Parracor + less expensive 4-5 element eyepieces that compare favorably to Naglers or Panoptics used alone?

Naglers-Panoptics with or without Parracor?

Posted By Kurt King

Does using a Parracor improve the imaging of Naglers or Panoptics? Or is the Parracor for non Televue eyepieces? In other words, can the Naglers-Panoptics handle F/4 coma on their own and it's the other brands of eyepieces that benefit most from the Parracor?

2" MV-1 thread into a 2" TV diagonal?

Posted By Kurt King

Friends, Having just picked up a 5" F/9 achromat with a 2" diagonal, I was wondering if the 2" MV-1(or 20) will thread into the Televue diagnal and be a flush fit such that the OD's of the filter and diagonal are the same and can be reinserted into the focuser? My purchase of a MV-1 or 20 depend on your expertise. Thanks for your help.

Slumped Mirror& Cell help request

Posted By Kurt King

Enclosed is a picture of my 19" F/4 1" thick slumped mirror. It's resting on a 21" diameter 1.5" thick bondo pad that will give full support(with cushioning). I would appreciate some thoughts on how I can provide lateral support to keep the mirror in collimation(and final figuring). One of the pictures shows a piece of angle that I may use and thread a plastic bolt to adjust or center the mirror for collimation.I also plan to drill holes thru the bondo and wood to provide air movement under the mirror via a fan.

Slumped Mirror & cell help picture #2

Posted By Kurt King

Sorry, I needed 2 posts for 2 pictures. Heres a close up of the proposed angle around the circumference. Plastic bolts thru the angle may be a way to "adjust" and hold the mirror during collimation.
