Hello, BIG, thin Mirror Makers

Posted By Kurt King

I just went out on a limb and aquired(gulp), some 25" diameter, .960" thick quartz blanks. I have successfully made a 19" F/4 1" thick plate glass mirror, but is this size stretching it a bit? Has anyone made or know of someone who has made a thin mirror this size? I have some generated convex tooling so most of the material will be removed from the center only, leaving the edge thickness intact. The backs are flat to .0003". It was get the quartz now or lose it forever so I jumped on it.

Nagler 13MM T1 differences

Posted By Kurt King

Friends, you have probably been following the bidding on Nagler eyepieces on E..y. There are currently 2 Nagler 13MM t1's. One is the smooth barrel older Nagler we are all familar with. There is also a bigger 13mm that has the rubberized grip around the barrel. I have never seen that one and it too is described as an older t1. Can someone help me with the history on these, especially the rubberized grip 13mm. PS. I picked up the 11mm t1 as a "buy it now" for $250.00 I understand they are collector items so I thought that was a good price?

Starsplitter cast aluminum focuser

Posted By Kurt King

Friends, I am accumulating parts for a couple of 12.5" f/5 reflectors. I ran across Starsplitter Telescopes cast aluminum focusers in 1.25" and 2" formats. Can anyone give me some comments on the quality/usability of these focusers? I am making F/5 mirrors with 2.14" secondaries in 14" ID tubes. Would either the 1.25" or 2" focusers be a good solution in these systems? Thanks very much.

UO Ortho- unusual marking

Posted By Kurt King

Hello eyepiece experts, I just added the 9MM UO Ortho(non HD) to my set of 5,7,12.5,18 and 25MM's. The 9MM is the only one that has additional lettering along the top. The unusual letters are
"O.P.S.". Can someone please clarify these letters? Thanks.

Question for Roland on correctors

Posted By Kurt King

Roland, You stated(can't find to quote) that it is best to generate a Mak corrector from a thick flat piece of quality glass. What are your thoughts on slumping a thinner piece of glass, thus annealing it at the same time? would this less expensive(saving on cost & time) be capable of producing a Mak worthy of your standards?

Maksutov question for Roland

Posted By Kurt King

Roland, Due to your much appreciated input on why not to use a slumped mak corrector, I have abandoned my 8" Mak project. I was wondering if we amateur glass pushers can, with your help, resurrect the old Maksutov Club. That is, if enough of us are interested and could agree on a particular size and design Mak, could we enlist your help in bulk buying corrector glass and assisting with a nice design? Just testing the waters. Thanks.
